Aalayam

A Modern Indian Home Rooted in Warmth

Warmth

Quiet Design for Everyday Living

Aalayam, located in Vadodara, is a contemporary Indian residence that celebrates craftsmanship, material honesty, and the gentle rhythm of everyday life. Designed by architect Manan Vadalia, the home is envisioned as a sanctuary, a place where “being home” feels immediate and instinctive.

DWELLING

A Space Shaped Around Life

Every detail in Aalayam is thoughtfully shaped by the use of natural, tactile materials that engage the senses and evoke a sense of calm. Warm wood, hand-finished brass, lime-wash walls, and natural stone form a grounded, earthy foundation, while stained-glass accents and soft Indian textiles like cotton and linen add layers of texture and cultural depth. Together, these elements create a palette that feels timeless yet deeply rooted in memory and tradition.

The home is designed not to impress, but to embrace. It avoids excess and visual noise, allowing spaces to breathe and light to gently unfold throughout the day. Aalayam invites its inhabitants to slow down, to be present, and to truly live within the space—where comfort, warmth, and quiet moments become part of everyday life.

Craft & Detail

Rooted in Ritual, Shaped for Today

The project involved extensive collaboration with local artisans, a challenge that became one of the project’s greatest strengths. Through months of research and fieldwork, Manan cultivated relationships with craftspeople who shared his love for precision and authenticity.
Designed over six months and brought to life through a year of intentional execution, the home features custom-built elements throughout. Aalayam is not just a project; it is a personal milestone. As Manan’s first work as a principal architect and a heartfelt gift to his parents, it represents his belief that architecture should offer peace, identity, and longevity to the people who call it home.
